Myofascial Release Therapy

“It is estimated that over 90% of patients treated by therapists have myofascial dysfunction. Failure to recognise the importance of fascia with respect to the body’s structure and movement help explain many of the poor or temporary results achieved with standard treatment. An entire physiologic system has been ignored.” – John F. Barnes PT

The benefits of Myofascial Release are;

  • Alleviates aches and pains

  • Balances the mind and body

  • Reduces emotional discomfort

  • Encourages free flowing movement

  • Increases the body’s healing capacities

Myofascial Release Therapy is a soft tissue rehabilitation therapy that aims to release restricted fascia within the body.

The fascial network is thought to be the “missing link” in bodywork therapies and may help understand chronic pain.

Restoring the fascia back to its truest form can create a positive impact both physically and mentally. Consequently, the release can be quite profound.

Here are some reasons why Fascia may be restricted;

  • incorrect posture

  • lack of movement

  • repetitive movement

  • physical trauma

  • emotional trauma

  • surgery

We often feel pain away from the source of restriction.

These restrictions can occur at any point in our lives. The fascial web has stored memory. We can hold restrictions in our body for a long time without being aware of these.

The fascia is melted back into it’s free flowing form via direct & indirect techniques. These can be subtle and gentle or deep and penetrating, all techniques affect the fascia.

The Fascia looks a bit like a spiders web!
